After doctors diagnosed Donnie’s mother with breast cancer, his entire family became unpaid caregivers.
“Someone was with her 24 hours a day,” said Donnie, now risk management director for the Alvin Independent School District outside of Houston.
Donnie says everyone missed work, gave up vacations, and skipped activities to provide his mother with the care she deserved.
